Resolutions

“If you asked me for my New Year Resolution, it would be to find out who I am”.

Hello, and Happy New Year! Once again, I apologize for not writing much. It’s been tough trying to determine what I want to say to a bunch of strangers who will eventually read this (or maybe not); or what I want to read when I eventually re-read my blog. So 2013 is over. That is truly hard to believe. This past year was strictly okay, but I most certainly learned a lot about myself.

As we’re already 2 days into 2014 it’s nice to think about what this future year will bring, how it will compare to past years, and whether a year from now will I be saying that 2014 was the best year ever? Only time will tell I suppose.

While I would love to say that I have a list of resolutions for myself, and what I want this year to bring, I can’t say too much about that. I’ve decided that this year I will pick up some things I have left to the side. For example, I hope to write in my blog more, giving my readers (for those of you who read this) an interesting read. Other things that are on my mental list are picking up photography again. I stopped for a long time, and could never really get back into it. I hope this year I find out what made me fell in love with photography. I also plan to read more, starting with some of my favorites: Of Mice and Men, and Tuesdays with Morrie.

Also as a side note, I’m re-doing my room. Could not be more excited about that. But actually, not kidding.

What are you planning on doing for New Year? Do you start new habits, or rekindle old ones?

City Life & Springtime

This post is inspired by:

“The city is not a concrete jungle. It is a human zoo”.

Greetings, and happy spring! Well, not exactly because there’s still snow on the ground, but it almost the end of March so I think this is acceptable.

Since my weekend nights are filled with traveling to other schools, or staying on campus with friends, and my weekend days consist of sleeping and then occasionally doing work, I decided to take a different approach. Instead of changing my ways, today after class I decided to take a stroll around the city, and I remembered why I love it so much. It’s tough to say, but because I’m so busy with classes, and school stuff I hardly get out to experience the city unless I’m going somewhere specific, because I just don’t have the time. But today I made the time.

One of my favorite things about spring time in Boston is that the season in itself gives you a reason to spend more time outside, whether it be walking around the Fens, or traveling down to the Commons. Today, because it wasn’t that warm, I took the T. A whole thing itself. Public transportation is both the best and worst thing of a city. The best: you are forced to mingle with random people, who sometimes are actually nice. The worst: the T shuts down all the time, people can be rude and loud (homeless people singing.. no thanks).

When I am not forced to take the T, I love walking, everywhere. While others put in both head phones and tune out the world, I am noted for having one headphone in, always. Today, for example, I was glad I did my normal tacit. I was at a cross-walk and some guy and I were discussing how hard it is to see the cars around a specific corner, causing the pedestrians to play car dodge half the time. Even though it was brief, it was nice to talk to a stranger about something we have in common, and then go our separate ways. I know the stereo-type is that city people are always on the move, but we’re not that scary. I promise.

Another thing I love about the city, Boston in particular, is the love and attitude towards the upcoming Red Sox season. Walk anywhere by Fenway, and everyone is all ready for opening day. Of course, I had to get my new Red Sox stuff so I can strut around it in when the time comes. There is something about city life that you miss when you are stuck in the dorm doing work all the time, or eating from the dining hall. Even though you are in the city, you’re not experiencing the city.

Therefore, I encourage you (if you live in any city) to take the afternoon, or make time, and experience the city you love. Walk around without your headphones and see who you meet!

I don’t think you’ll regret it.
